DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, Fla. (AP) — In a shocking reversal, winner of last year’s Skip Bo Championship, held in Cartagena Colombia, FOLDED in this years tournament.
In February, 2025, Van Meurs trounced Nancy Magsig, a seasoned (aka “old”) veteran. Mr. Van Meurs was heavily favored in this year’s Championship, which was held at the prestigious Days Inn Wyndham Oceanfront in Daytona Beach Shores. Timed to precede the Daytona 500, the event planned for massive crowds. Thankfully, they didn’t show up, which made crowd control easy.
The most humiliating part of the loss was that in addition to losing 483 matches to 1, Roland experienced the utter humiliation of a “Roland”. In layman’s terms, that means he sucked. Actually, he only came one card away from getting a second “Roland”, which is called a “Sharon” in the Skip Bo universe.
Ms. Magsig, as always, was a sore winner, jubilantly declaring “I WON! I deserved to win because I am old, entitled and would have pitched a fit if I didn’t. Roland may say it was luck but I say my skill prevailed. I worked long and hard marking that deck!”
The world awaits the 2027 rematch. Dates/location will be announced so that the many fans from around the world can arrange their travel. Again, we congratulate Ms. Magsig and give a big old Hawaiian finger to Mr. Van Meurs.
