January 30, 2025 - Why is it so Hot in Here?

We were both looking forward to a good sleep, then planned to get up early to walk on the wall around the Old City early this morning.  That didn't happen.  It seems the transformer on the corner blew, again, and we lost power for almost six hours.  And involved me going to the lobby at 3 a.m. to find out if it was just my apartment that lost power or the whole building,   Long story short, we headed to the wall, so to speak at 8:30.

We walked, stopped for deditos de queso and coffee and shopped at the Portal de Las Dulces.  Then picked up some ceviche and headed home.  This afternoon has been quiet - I tutored online while Roland played lizard by the pool.

Tonight Roland gets to experience the wonder of cheap food delivery with Rappi (pork tacos al pastor!)

Tomorrow's another "port day" - Juan Carlos is taking us to Baru and Playa Blanca with a stop at an aviary along the way.

Here are some photos:

A sailboat for fishing.

I found a heart.

Gabriel Garcia Marquez is from Cartagena.  This former university is now a museum about his life.  Worth a stop.

Florida needs to consider more places to relax in the shade with a breeze.

He won a Nobel prize for literature and wrote Love in the Time of Cholera, which coincidentally is on my Kindle.

The streets were a bit busier than when I usually go at 7 a.m.  By the time we left around noon, I was more than ready.  I don't like crowds.  And, there were no ships in port today.

Juan Carlos assured Roland that touching the fat ladies breast would make his wish come true.

We both were excited to try some new fruits while we're here.  This guy had plenty!  I first noticed the mangosteens, one of my favorites that I learned to love when I lived in Myanmar.

I may have to go back to this panaderia (bakery).  We didn't buy anything but it looked wonderful.

I like birds on statues.

Why does Hard Rock still exist?

The ceviche from Cevicheria de Sombrero.  It is excellent - this is the "mixto" with crab, octopus and shrimp.  And a dedito de queso - a flaky pastry with cheese inside.  Price was less than $10 for both.

Can anyone help us identify the fruit??

Yes, we have a tiny candy issue.  We've got to try them!

Juan Carlos bought us 4 tubes of delicious coconut water.

Roland chillin' at the pool.
